muesum special edition

Master Piece

The reason  i believe that this piece of art is a master piece for me because I love all of his different styles of work and I believed that this one was a beautifully designed oil painting. Oil painting is very difficult and is actually really to blend together the way he did with the different colors. He used colors that contrasted each and also blended well together as well. I love the fact he was able to pain the actual reflection of the buildings in the water. He was abl we to make it realistic and beautiful. This painting i could tell was very time consuming and he made sure that the image itself was represented in unique and peaceful way.

Disaster Piece

This painting I thought to be a disaster piece because i am really not a fan of the style and i dont believe the different images in the painting is representing the protrait itself in thw best way. The portrait is of woman and it not faltering. The colors are being used are not well put together and dont compliment or contrast each other. The shapes in the background don't really make sense to correspond with the actual painting and the dress is definitely something else on its own. The colors are to dull for my liking and maybe someone else would have a different perspective on this portait but I just  I don't believe is the best thing that I seen in this muesum.

midterm printworks gallery special edition

The exquisite corpse is basically where 3 different artist artwork is sitched together. The artists do not know each other and they only where the dimensions of their piece starts and ends. So when they sitch the pieces together, the piece is very unique.  The artist I talked to about their piece was the middle part of the photo above and he told me he has working in commercial photography was awhile. He started with a photograph of a girl scout which he said it is a series he has been working on for 6 months. He said he is very interested in peoples xrays and collects them and that is what you see in the composition as well. He used photoshop to combine these photos with different ways of angling them and croping the images. He said finally he is aslo really interested in old blue prints and that he actually printed one over the finished image and love how it turned out. I was definitely rwally impressed with this aetshow and thought was a really interesting concept.

week 14

I finally got my magazine and looks great but there are a few minor errors but I am definitely happy with the outcome of this magazine it was definitely a experience to remember and it is something I see myself creating in the future.

week 11

The things I need to change for this magazine that we talked about in class is the color of the pages. I need the photos to pop off the pages as the tile of the pages because bright colors in the background are actually taking from the artwork. The contrast of color needs to restore to a more neutral color scheme.  I also want to change the layout of the how the page is setup. I want to to put title and information all in a bundle so it looks nice. I also want to delete some slides and add other one to incorporate more of my own personal photography.

week 10

Craft & Composition

When I corrected this timeline, I wanted to have it stand out more so I  changed the background from white to black in Illustrator using the shape tool and color wheel. I wanted the writing to contrast better with the background. I also wanted to give the timeline a more Halloween vibe to it, so it could be better represented. I also added a moon to the hand so that hand would blend in the background and it would pop out against the background. I also add a Halloween mask to better compare the different changes over time in Halloween. The mask shows a compare/ contrast of past to present time. This led me to the decision to change the name of the timer to Halloween over time instead of Halloween Evolution.

week 9

Craft
I used the program Illustrator to create my timeline. This version I changed so that it looked more like a timeline.  The circles represented the data of the history. I used the shape tool to create the circles that the data is in and the actually clock. I used the pen tool while tracing the different objects that represent the data. I traced the shadows of the objects to create each of the details in the different objects.  I used the type too as well to write out the data and write the different numbers on the clock.

Composition

The different colors that represented on the timeline are used to be spooky and contrast each other. The colors also represent the holiday Halloween, which is what the timeline is related to. These colors red and black are giving the info graphic a high contrast to actually catch someones eye.

The critique that was giving on my info graphic was that I should change background color. They said that the white was too much and it needed to be contrasted in a different way.  The also suggested that I add another picture that represents Halloween today. So I was thinking about adding a popular mask that represents costumes that people wear on Halloween. This last version they liked the bested based on the different fonts used to create it. I agree with them, the fonts give the info graphic a spooky, creepy look that defines what Halloween is all about.

week 8 timeline

Craft and Composition

I used tools in Illustrator to create this timeline. I used the pen tool to create the different graphics, creating one graphic at a time. I created the hand, wolf girl, candy and soul all separate and combined them all in one composition. I used the shape tool to create the background and the circles to hold the history stats. I used the text tool to write out the history analysis. The colors I used I tried to correspond with the them which is halloween. I tried to create a timeline based on the clock to show that candy evolved from soul cakes and the mask evolved to certain halloween costumes twore today. The hand is the starting point for halloween because its represents Samhain believing that dead came back to life. I want to change things up to show what I am trying to say better regarding time.  Also, I might change the title to make it represent the data better and change the origination of the graphics as well.

So more to come soon....

week 7 Illustration based on a Photograph

Illustration based on a Photograph

This week's assignment was to trace an photograph based on our topic. My topic is Halloween.  The image I traced in Illustrator is a photograph of my own work which you can see below the original copy of the photo and the illustrated copy.

This photograph was taken to resemble evil fairytales/Halloween.  I took this photograph with triangle lighting.  You can tell because their is a triangle shadow right by her nose.  I also edited the photo in Photoshop giving her red eyes and fangs to give the halloween/evil vibe to the photograph.

I trace this Illustration based on the photograph above. I used the shape and pen tool to trace this picture.  I made shapes with pen tool by starting with eyes then mouth the nose and so on to create the face.  I used color by using the eyedropper to match the different tones.  When I made the shapes to develop her face I focused on the shadows and tone them a darker color, I then added outline details, like the shape of her face. I  began drawing different shapes based on her clothing and cape to bring the character to life.  Then I drew shapes based on her arms and hands, I toned them based on shadows as well.  I outlined the tree and added different shapes inside the branches to give a real texture look to it.  The background is a black square shape that I created with the shape tool.

week 5

 Halloween History Image

The First draft of my Halloween image started with tools from Illustrator. I used the shape tool to create the body and the eyes of the pumpkin. I created the stem by using first the shape tool to create a square and then the pen tool to bring the stem to life. The words were also used  with the pen tool. I added the orange color by sing the fill and the stroke. I used the word Halloween as the mouth to give the image itself meaning along with the letters. The letters stylized made the mouth creepy and gave the pumpkin a Halloween look to it.

This version of the pumpkin I added style to the eyes to bring them out and also a chalk style to the whole pumpkin to add contrast to the orange color. I wanted the black chalk style to match the style of the letters that spell out Halloween.

History Analysis

·     Halloween was known as an ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain, it marked the end of a harvest season.  They believed that this transition period from fall to winter was a bridge from the world of the dead.  The Celtics believed that the ghost of the world would return back to earth and so the dressed up in animal skins and had huge bonfire to ward off evil spirits (History.com Staff).
  •  Pope Boniface IV dedicated the Pantheon in Rome in honor of all Christian martyrs. Also Pope Gregory III included all saints in the festival  which Christians know as all saints day but later be called all hollows eve (history.com Staff).

  • Trick-or-treating probably originated during the All Souls’ Day parades in England. The poor citizens would beg for food and families would give them pastries called “soul cakes” in return for their promise to pray for the family’s dead relatives (History.com Staff).

Week 3 and 4 ABCs drawing -jsantor

This is the starting point of my ABC drawing, my next step is to finish with ABC shapes.

 Craft with Composition

The tools I used to achieve this ABC drawing is Illustrator. I used the pen tool to create a  unique font for my ABC's. I first made the ABC's normal and enhanced them them by adding my own style. Some of the letters you can see have pointy edges making the letter different from a usual version . I also add some squiggles to certain letters like O and Q. The font that I have created is called Vampire-Ninja.
The color I added to the front is red, which is on the inside of the letters. The outline color of the front is black. The black color is stylized with a charcoal outline which adds a creepy , vampire look to it.

This how my font name was created with symbol to represent it. I used the shape tool and pen tool in Illustrator to make a ninja throwing star but you can also see a outline of a cross to represent the vampire part of the font name.

This one I added style to make it look more bold and have a similar look to the letters.

This one i made to look 3D by adding another version of the shape over it and making the fill a lighter color.  I also turned down opacity level.

week 2 100 Line Drawings

Craft

For the 100 line assignment, I first drew out the objects on my paper using 100 lines.
The drawings took more time because I was figuring out how big and small each line should be. I also was trying to figure out how close to together the lines should be to make the shape of the object.  Drawing the object by looking at it was difficult. It took many attempts to get the portions down by using lines. Finally I realized that if  certain lines were closer together and smaller it gave the drawing the shape I were looking for.
As you can see in the photo below the lines  at the bottom start out  large and then become small. After that, the lines get close together and gradually get bigger toward the top of the object. This process helped me show the curves and the different proportions of the object I was drawing.
In class we transferred our drawing on paper to Illustrator. This was simpler because we were no long looking objects and trying to develop lines but we were looking at the line drawing and following each line. It can be a little hard because drawing on a computer program is not the same as paper. The steps of making the drawing on Illustrator was just following it line for line.

Composition

In illustrator after transferring the drawings, there are different ways to add style. I added a Charcoal style and a water color style to give the line drawings a unique look to it.
