week 10

Craft & Composition

When I corrected this timeline, I wanted to have it stand out more so I  changed the background from white to black in Illustrator using the shape tool and color wheel. I wanted the writing to contrast better with the background. I also wanted to give the timeline a more Halloween vibe to it, so it could be better represented. I also added a moon to the hand so that hand would blend in the background and it would pop out against the background. I also add a Halloween mask to better compare the different changes over time in Halloween. The mask shows a compare/ contrast of past to present time. This led me to the decision to change the name of the timer to Halloween over time instead of Halloween Evolution.

week 9

Craft
I used the program Illustrator to create my timeline. This version I changed so that it looked more like a timeline.  The circles represented the data of the history. I used the shape tool to create the circles that the data is in and the actually clock. I used the pen tool while tracing the different objects that represent the data. I traced the shadows of the objects to create each of the details in the different objects.  I used the type too as well to write out the data and write the different numbers on the clock.

Composition

The different colors that represented on the timeline are used to be spooky and contrast each other. The colors also represent the holiday Halloween, which is what the timeline is related to. These colors red and black are giving the info graphic a high contrast to actually catch someones eye.

The critique that was giving on my info graphic was that I should change background color. They said that the white was too much and it needed to be contrasted in a different way.  The also suggested that I add another picture that represents Halloween today. So I was thinking about adding a popular mask that represents costumes that people wear on Halloween. This last version they liked the bested based on the different fonts used to create it. I agree with them, the fonts give the info graphic a spooky, creepy look that defines what Halloween is all about.

week 8 timeline

Craft and Composition

I used tools in Illustrator to create this timeline. I used the pen tool to create the different graphics, creating one graphic at a time. I created the hand, wolf girl, candy and soul all separate and combined them all in one composition. I used the shape tool to create the background and the circles to hold the history stats. I used the text tool to write out the history analysis. The colors I used I tried to correspond with the them which is halloween. I tried to create a timeline based on the clock to show that candy evolved from soul cakes and the mask evolved to certain halloween costumes twore today. The hand is the starting point for halloween because its represents Samhain believing that dead came back to life. I want to change things up to show what I am trying to say better regarding time.  Also, I might change the title to make it represent the data better and change the origination of the graphics as well.

So more to come soon....

week 7 Illustration based on a Photograph

Illustration based on a Photograph

This week's assignment was to trace an photograph based on our topic. My topic is Halloween.  The image I traced in Illustrator is a photograph of my own work which you can see below the original copy of the photo and the illustrated copy.

This photograph was taken to resemble evil fairytales/Halloween.  I took this photograph with triangle lighting.  You can tell because their is a triangle shadow right by her nose.  I also edited the photo in Photoshop giving her red eyes and fangs to give the halloween/evil vibe to the photograph.

I trace this Illustration based on the photograph above. I used the shape and pen tool to trace this picture.  I made shapes with pen tool by starting with eyes then mouth the nose and so on to create the face.  I used color by using the eyedropper to match the different tones.  When I made the shapes to develop her face I focused on the shadows and tone them a darker color, I then added outline details, like the shape of her face. I  began drawing different shapes based on her clothing and cape to bring the character to life.  Then I drew shapes based on her arms and hands, I toned them based on shadows as well.  I outlined the tree and added different shapes inside the branches to give a real texture look to it.  The background is a black square shape that I created with the shape tool.
